I am curious about a ring that I have been wearing for the last 20 years or so and hoped some help could be offered as to the marks. It is a rustic looking ring stamped with STERLING followed by a mark with an S overlaying a W. The ring has a thick band (exactly 8/10 cm)and has a cross hatched design around it. The edges are sort of hammered so that the ring is actually a polygon rather than a true circle. (Sorry, I haven't any pictures.) I have had a lot of compliments when I wear it, but have no idea of its origins. I know it is at least 40 - 50 years old. Any information would be greatly appreciated! IP: Logged |

Without clear closeup photos of the marks and a photo of the overall ring it would be very difficult to say much. IP: Logged |

Kimo is absolutely right about our need for images - however, meanwhile one possibility is William Sprating of Taxco, Mexico. Check out http://www.spratling.com/hallmarks.htm for an ample selection of his marks from different periods. IP: Logged |
