This nice hammered sterling torque is marked SC&LCo in an oval, presumably for Shreve Crump and Low, then in script Handwrought, then sterling, then in a signature-like stamp Conley. The gold tint is from the lighting; the piece is plain sterling.
I believe this may be James Conley of Newburyport, MA, identified online as a past designer for Cartier and Shreve Crump and Low. Does anyone know anything more about him, dating for this piece, etc.? IP: Logged |

Great to see this post and to hear of Jim Conley. I have been forging neck collars for the past 30+ years and still forge at least 12/year. Most are for retail shops. I just finished one in 14k and have an order for three in sterling. I also collect collars by others and have examples by Ronald Hayes Pearson, ONC, Richard Messina and Mexican jeweler Sigi Pineda. It is always a treat to see the work of others and even better to understand the skill it took to make it. Fred IP: Logged |
