Scott, A shot in the dark. Could this possibly be an early piece by John Paul Miller? I see the mark as a cojoined JP over an M. Miller is known for his fabulous granulation and enamel work in gold. Fred IP: Logged |

Thanks Fred. I see what you mean. It could be “a conjoined JP over an M”. Because I am not near my references right now, I looked on the Internet. I didn’t find a mark for John Paul Miller but I did find several works and this item doesn’t feel like it was done by the same hand. It would be good to identify the above mark on vathek's item as well as to see the mark(s) for John Paul Miller. IP: Logged |

Scott, Jan Yager did a interview with Miller for the Smithsonian archives. John has been around for a long time and did not start with granulation and enamel. My speculation was that this might be an early piece. It is a very long shot. I wish I had an example of his work. Fred IP: Logged |
