Hi all, I see that Fritz Falk has just published a book on jewelry from Pforzheim (Art Nouveau Jewellery from Pforzheim, in German). I heard rumors that he was working on a book, and he is the (I believe, former) director of the Pforzheim Schmuckmuseum. I just ordered a copy (books that cover my passion of jugendstil jewelry are few & far between), but I'm curious if anyone else has seen the book yet. - rat IP: Logged |

Always good to see you, rat! Sounds like a wonderful book. Bit out of my price range at the moment (most funds going into the neverending renovation), but would love to know if there are any Meyle & Meyer dragonflies shown. Would guess that you've seen Jeweled Bugs & Butterflies by Nissenson & Jonas, a small book, but filled with lovely pieces. ~Cheryl IP: Logged |

Hi all, Well, my copy just arrived today, and it is a wonderful reference with many good color photographs of jewelry from 18 firms. What is nice is that the book is written in German, but also translated into English (thank goodness!). There are *many* examples of the variety of work from well known firms such as Theodor Fahrner, Heinrich Levinger, and Meyle & Mayer is represented as well as lesser known firms whose work comes up in the marketplace from time to time. Also, I just started reading, but there is a great deal of history about the firms and major designers from Pforzheim which I don't think has been collected together in one work before. The book was obviously a labor of love. I'd recommend it to anyone who is seriously interested in Jugendstil jewelry (but it isn't cheap). Cheryl, there are 5 lovely enamel dragonfly pieces from Meyle and Mayer pictured, all of which came from the Tadema Gallery in London. The Zezschwitz & Dry book is also a good reference (which is actually a color auction catalog) with photographs and I think some makers' marks. Ulrike von Hase's book on Jugendstil jewelry from Germany & Austria (in German) is another excellent reference, but is hard to find, and the photos are black & white, but there are many firms listed with examples and makers' marks. - rat IP: Logged |

rat - Thank you for reviewing the book for us, it sounds wonderful! And thanks for checking on the dragonflies for me, am familiar with the Tadema Gallery's pieces - they're lovely. Believe I'll have to check with our library, if they don't have it, an inter-library loan is always a possibility. ~Cheryl IP: Logged |
