This flower broach looks like it is marked Bauding with the "G" at the end and the "G" in sterling combined into one letter. Any information about the flower or the marking would be very much appreciated.

The name on the mark is actually Bauring. I have only seen silver brooches by them. An American company, it seems to have been active around the '40s/50s. I believe Rainwater's book of American jewelry mfrs. lists more information about the company. IP: Logged |

That's it Paul. Thank you! My copy of Rainwater doesn't have anything about this company. There is mention on the internet of a Baur being in business with a Ring who was apparently the financier and accountant for the company and also that they were in business in Long Island. The only information that is confirmable at this point is the name you pointed out. IP: Logged |

Thank you for that Fred. I wasn't too sure about the leaves but the blossoms did have me thinking that way. Does anybody have NANCY N. SCHIFFER's book for collectors that apparently has at least one piece of Bauring in it and maybe something about the company? IP: Logged |

Rainwater (jewelry, not silver) lists Bauring but only as Long Island City, listed in the Jewelers' Circular for 1943. I found no mention in the 3 editions of Warman's, or Rezazadeh's Silver Jewelry, or the less likely possibilities I tried. IP: Logged |

This isn't much, but a 1946 directory entry shows Bauring Co, 220 W 19 St New York City, New York silver jewelry. IP: Logged |

FWG, thank you. I did not know about the two Rainwater books. [This message has been edited by bascall (edited 04-09-2009).] IP: Logged |

Here's another little bit on this subject from a special to the 8 January 1932 New York Times: New Corporations, New Charters, Bauring Corp., general jewelry - L. Stansky, 1450 Broadway, Manhattan 100 Shares Com. Just a side note; it appears the building at 1450 Broadway in Manhattan was new in 1931. IP: Logged |
