[26-1355] I have a silver piece with a turquoise stone and a red stone, and a bear claw attached. The mark on the back is a "foot" or footprint. I cannot find any info what-so-ever on this mark and would appreciate it if someone could let me know. Thank you. IP: Logged |

If you read and follow what you find at the top of the page - the big underlined bit about "Please Read Before You Post" - you will find this a very helpful site. And as is pointed out, a photo is pretty well necessary. Good luck! IP: Logged |

Yes, there are over two dozen different footprint marks for southwestern silver, just among those recorded and identified -- and many others as well. Photos are really essential. IP: Logged |

You might check out "Hallmarks of the Southwest" published by Schiffer Books Author Barton Wright. There may have been an earlier one published as well. Try your library or local book store. Good Luck! Jersey IP: Logged |

I don't see that mark in Hallmarks of the Southwest. But the piece is in a fairly common style that is made by many people for the trade. I would guess that it dates no earlier than the 1970s, and could be much more recent. The construction is by using commercially available die-stamped pieces, along with a bit of sheet silver, some round wire, and the serrated bezel wire. They're nice pieces, but made in some quantity -- if you go into one of the 'trading posts' in Arizona you'll see dozens. The red stone is most likely coral, but I have seen red glass also used. Sorry for the delay in responding, it's been a busy few days.... [This message has been edited by FWG (edited 02-24-2007).] IP: Logged |
