Not much is known about Margaret Vant (1905 - 1989). According to Inspiring Reform, she was a student of George Hunt, along with Hazel Blake French. A web search says she graduated in 1923 from The St. Johnsbury Academy in St. Johnsbury Vt. Her work appears rarely on the market, and the few listed pieces have been fairly small.

Here's an exception -- and an exceptional 18K gold object:

It's large, and complex, and is made of 16 interlocking plaques joined with small loops that allow a bit of movement. The leaves, wirework stems, and blossoms are all handworked in 18K gold, and it contains a dozen faceted open-back bezel-set green citrine stones.

It's a real show-stopper, and there have to be other impressive Vant pieces like this out there somewhere. But where are they? And why is there so little written about this wonderful craftsperson?

Listed in Boston Directories from the 1930's through the 1940's as an artist and jeweler. She is listed as a lithographer from at least 1953 and is listed from at least 1958 to 1962 as an artist at the Lithograph Corporation of America in Boston.

Here's a couple references that you may use regularly, but if not, they may be helpful:

A very impressive piece and her work is rarely seen. It must be very special to see it in person.
Thanks for sharing it with us.
