Carl Ruopoli was a mid-20th century jeweler, much of whose work was sold by Danecraft and Black, Starr & Gorham. His output was almost exclusively in sterling silver, and just about all the pieces we've seen were cast. Many of his brooches were figural (birds, shells, fish, leaves and berries) but he also produced a lot of bracelets and necklaces that were geometric, Deco-styled or somewhat Scandinavian in appearance. He used a lot of moonstones.

Black, Starr & Gorham was an upscale retailer, Danecraft less so. Ruopoli's pieces have a good-but-not-great look, in our opinion.

However, we found one Ruopoli object that we think is especially nice. It's 14k gold, and seems to have been hand carved:

The piece drapes well, and has good weight. The open-back moonstones are bezel-set, and nicely matched. It's unusual for Ruopoli, and very timeless and wearable.

That is lovely.

Somewhere I have a silver Ruopoli brooch in the shape of a shell, but where did I put it? I want to say it has a moonstone too, but that might just be wishful remembering. I haven't worn it since my best friend told me it looked like a cheese plate. Something off about the proportions.

I'll post a photo if it turns up.

Love the bracelet -- and pretty much what you show in all our posts.

And, I think I learned something -- I always think of Danecraft as a jewelry manufacturer and have not heard before of them being retailers. The first piece of Danecraft sterling I ever saw, I bought because I loved it and it remains my favorite sterling bracelet.

Other pieces I have seen over the years have reminded me of lightweight Jensen knock-offs, but I love the one I have and wear it often. What more can you tell us about Danecraft retail operations?

Here's another very nice Ruopoli set, this time in silver, with bezel-set carnelians.
