Here's a pretty Arts & Crafts pendant necklace somewhat like pieces made by Carence Crafters. It is signed simply RICE:

This is the first object we've seen with that mark, and we're unfamiliar with the maker. The most famous Rice is probably Lewis W. Rice, who designed for Bernard Rice's Sons, Inc., but his items are largely Deco / modernist in style, and his best known work was silverplate.

John Andrew Rice founded Black Mountain College in 1933 in Asheville, NC, and held classes in studio arts, but there's no record of producing jewelry.

Jean Durant Rice made ceramics at Durant Kilns (eventually Volkmar) in Bedford Village, NY 1911-1919, but again, there's no jewelry of hers that we know of.

However, according to Women Designers in the USA (Pat Kirkham, ed.), Maud Bowers Rice "the first graduate in industrial design in America...turned to jewelry [to] work from home and more readily combine design with domestic duties." So this could possibly have been hers.

This is a wonderful pendant. What sort of catch does it have? I have never heard of Rice and can not give you any leads.
Thanks for sharing this gem with us.
