Yngve Olsson was chief designer for the Kalo Shop, and one of the four craftsman Clara Welles turned her shop over to when she retired. He was born in Copenhagen in 1896, emigrated to the US in 1918, and joined the Kalo Shop after WWI. Like a lot of Kalo workers, he moonlighted and produced his own pieces. Here's a ring: Two other Olsson pieces, a bracelet and a pin (which was also produced for Kalo with a Kalo mark): He used several different marks. In addition to the .Y.O. on the back of the ring his items had these others: IP: Logged |

He also made holloware and flatware. One strange Olsson piece is a small very modernist bowl with both his mark and the KALO mark. We've seen only a few Kalo objects with two marks like this. IP: Logged |

Granted this is "splitting hairs," but I presume you are interested in accuracy, so I can tell you that Yngve Harold Olsson immigrated on 12 August 1915 and was working for Kalo shop as a chaser at least by 1917 and probably before that time. IP: Logged |

Thanks. You always seem to have great information! Where did these particular dates come from? The ones I mentioned above were in a July/August 1999 issue of Silver Magazine. IP: Logged |

Your welcome. The immigration date was from a 1915 New York passenger list and a 1920 U S passport application. The passenger list recorded that he was a gold and silver chaser (the handwriting for silver was difficult to make out, but it looked similar and just made sense). The 1917 date for working as a chaser at Kalo was from his World War I Draft Registration. All of these documents were found on ancestry.com. IP: Logged |
