I think this watch was purchased in Germany in the early 1930s, but I cannot find any information about the marks beyond the 14k mark. It was purchased by my grandparents in Germany as a gift for my father and I received it when he died. I have always like the style and just recently opened the back to look for marks.
I had always assumed it was made in Switzerland, but that country has a St Bernard for their mark on gold. Any information would be appreciated.

I must admit that I still like the windup watches and still have a favorite black faced Seiko that was made in the 70s.

the stamps flanking the trapezoidal device containing various numerical indications of the case's gold content appear to illustrate a squirrel motif, which was formerly used by the swiss to designate 14K gold. a small letter or symbol within the squirrel mark, if legible, would reveal the exact assay office at which the case was stamped.

the st. bernard mark was not adopted until 1995 and is used in conjunction with a separate purity mark in which the fineness of the gold is contained within a scale motif mark.

Thank you Paul. Switzerland was the right place after all.
