Here are two contemporary pieces by Kent State studio jeweler Kathleen Browne. Both of them recent acquisitions for the Museum's collection. Thrill--using an image from a True Crime magazine, is about 4"H. Green Wreath uses photo transfers of gems to create a faux jeweled necklace. Both are enamel on fine silver. IP: Logged |

Thanks for sharing these great pieces, Ulysses, especially the photo-transfer gemstone piece. Besides using actual gemstones, there are many interesting ways to address the use of gemstones in jewelry. Jean Paul Gaultier designed a necklace that was just mostly empty gemstone settings, and Belgian designer Ek Thongprasert has taken an elaborate vintage diamond necklace (think Liz Taylor gaudiness) and recast the whole thing in silicone.
