I recently found this fascinating Japanese ring signed SILVER HIRO (unusually, it is signed right on the front). I suspect it is from the late '70s or early '80s (the typeface of the HIRO mark, ITC Avant Garde, dates it to 1970 or after). The purity of Japanese silver jewelry is often 950 rather than 925 parts per 1000. It features a huge porous coral ball in a Modernist gilt silver mounting. The setting is all handmade and rather involved, featuring many narrow gauge wires assembled together. There seems to be a paucity of information on Japanese art jewelry, but I am hoping somebody might have an idea.

Are you sure it's a ring? Could it be a pendant, with the mark meant to hang at the bottom? IP: Logged |
