Here is an interesting mid-late 19th century silver item. It is a long pendant or fob of some kind. About 4 1/2" long and made of silver. The construction is fairly thin and lightweight, so its purpose cannot be anything too strenuous. The shield is engraved with the same design on both sides. The style appears to be continental. It is marked as shown with some kind of stamp I cannot read. The stamp is very blurry, it appears to contain 5 characters, some of which may be Ms, Hs, Ns, and maybe an O. Any thoughts?

It ring suggests that it was meant to hang from a chain? My guess would be a tongue depressor. IP: Logged |

vathek, thanks for the great suggestion. i think you may be right, and i'm glad to have this piece in my collection. couldn't find many images online, i did find one of very similar form but much larger. after looking at it again and comparing it to a couple of old watch keys i have, i'm thinking it might be circa 1800-1825. does this sound right?
