Think this beautiful Arts & Crafts bracelet:
was made by the celebrated silversmith Edward Oakes or his son Gilbert? It has the trademark Oakes style and quality. It even uses a familiar Oakes theme of leaves, silver beads, and scrolls in open frames. But this amazing object was actually made by a living legend, Laurence Foss. Foss grew up in the same town as Edward Oakes, and was Gilbert's childhood friend. He even helped Edward construct his iconic jeweled casket, on display at the MFA in Boston:
Foss made this bracelet entirely by hand. It's a masterful piece. Foss really is a national treasure. IP: Logged |
