For those who bemoan the lack of dedicated silver shows, one is being held again this year at the Four Points Sheraton - (the old Days Inn)Anaheim/Fullerton California- 1500S Raymond. For information call (714)892-1344.

We going to see you there again Ben?

I have it marked in my calender, Bob. Get there early and I'll buy you a cup of coffee. It will be interesting to see what continued effect ebay et al is having on the stock and pricing.

Those who were hoping that a silver only show would be a great success might be disappointed by todays show. Probably the reason for the modest result is the modest vision of the organizers, who seem focused on spoon collecting. Expecting a small show, they had a very small room and a couple dealers told me that they did not have room for their usual inventory and so left much at home. It appeared that dealers came no further than a couple hours drive and did not live up to what I would expect at a regular Bustamante show for silver. One even told me that he was expecting the Del Mar Show next week would be a lot stronger for him. The room was packed for the first couple of hours and then cleared out. This is a problem with a small dedicated all silver show, everybody is there at once rather than spread out roaming through a couple of hundred booths.

Having said that, I did enjoy the show, talking to friends, playing show and tell and doing some research on dating. I spent only $20 with a small dealer I hadn't known before on a little coin pastry fork, but it was a treasure to me since it completed my "Mystery" place setting.

Any show with silver dealers is a good thing, but Ben, it was better that you stayed home in Cincy this time.

This was the fourth year I have been to the Anahiem show and it appeared much the same as always -- there is something about seeing the same piece (still overpriced) in a dealer's case 4 years running that makes one weary. While I found a few nice pieces (including a South Carolina child's spoon c 1800 for pennies!), on the whole there was little to see but souvenir spoons and pattern match pieces. I noted the dealers were much tighter with prices than last year when they were going 30% at a jump. And I did hear from a few dealers that they were retiring or going completely online, so wouldn't be back next year. I hope they will be replaced or the show will be notably thin.
