Rolled, Beaten, Cast and Cut: Delaware Silver Delaware State Visitor Center, Dover, Delaware Sept. 16, 2002 - May 31, 2003 Featuring 388 pieces from the work of 41 out of the 51 silversmiths known to have worked in Delaware in the 18th and 19th centuries. The exhibit was planned to show changes in style of the silver produced during this period, and many of the pieces are displayed on period furniture. One vignette shows a dining room scene with fully dressed table, sideboard and corner cupbord. Another scene is that of a dressing room with silver objects used by ladies, gentlemen and children. Also on display are ornamental pieces made outside of Delaware but commissioned by or presented to individuals well known in Delaware history. Included as an adjunct exhibit is the silver service presented to the Battleship USS Delaware by the people of Delaware in 1910. The total weight of the service exceeds 176 pounds of sterling silver. The ten gallon punch bowl with its base and ladle weigh about 45 pounds. Local artist Howard Pyle was the design advisor for this 25 piece project which was created by Gorham under the direction of their chief designer, William Codman.
