Given the precarious state of antique shows, I am hesitant to say anything negative about a show. But after paying $12 per person yesterday to attend the D.S.Clarke Annual Antique Show in Coconut Grove which touted over 750 dealers in its pre-show advertising, I have to speak out. There were only about 200 dealers and we were able to sweep the show in 2 hours. Much floor space was taken up by rug dealers. It was a true disappointment and a serious case of false advertising. Last year, D.S. Clarke disappointed people by not sticking to its published show dates. The show unexpectedly opened two days late. That certainly hurt attendance and surely did not please the dealers. Maybe that explains the shortfall of dealers this year. Sad as it is to say, I don't think this show will make it another year. This is a shame because the Cococut Grove Convention Center is a wonderful venue and scheduling the show between the Radisson Show and the Beach Show is fabulous timing from an attendee point of view. The other thing that used to be nice about the Grove show is that there was a real mix of merchandise at all levels. You could find very high end goods in one booth and in the next aisle find a generalist dealer with very reasonably priced goods. Maybe a new promoter can breath life into this show. All we can do is hope. IP: Logged |

Just wanted to say that the Miami Beach Antique Show was fantastic especially after the Coconut Grove fiasco. It is a huge show with lots of wonderful merchandise. It is also a good excuse to get out of a cold climate. IP: Logged |
