The Montreal Museum of Art is hosting an exhibition of the works of Carl Poul Petersen (1895-1977). The Montreal silversmith's handcrafted silver evokes comparison to the works of Georg Jensen with whom Petersen apprenticed. The exhibition runs from February 13 to April 13, 2003. mbam.qc.ca - Carl Poul Petersen (1895-1977) IP: Logged |

Thanks so much for making me aware of the Carl Poul Petersen Exhibit at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. I immediately ordered & just today received their beautiful catalogue showing the most gorgeous and artistic silver items which were produced by Petersen. verwald, do you think you can give us a summary or review of the catalog? For instance, what types of silver wares are pictured? I'm curious, as I haven't been able to find the catalog to examine in person. IP: Logged |

Quoting from the catalogue - "This exhibition was conceived by Gloria Lesser who has been carrying out research into twentieth-century Canadian decorative arts for many years". Ms Lesser writes an excellent in depth biography about Petersen - his early career & training, emigration to Canada, setting up a permanent Studio, the legacy of Petersen & Sons, all above with photos. Pictures of Petersen Sterling Silver items: This will probably be of great interest & enjoyment to all collectors of C.P.Petersen silver. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the summary, it's just what I wanted. It sounds like a great reference I'll have to get (the bug motif silver was the clincher). IP: Logged |
