The current issue of the Missouri Historical Magazine notes that a book signing and exhibit on Missouri’s Silver Age: Silversmiths of the 1800s will be at 11a.m. on February 21, 2005. The exhibit will display Beatrice and Norman Mack’s collection of Missouri silver and their book will provide a comprehensive directory of 19th century Missouri silversmiths. The Missouri History Museum is located in Forest Park at Lindell and DeBaliviere and has great collections ranging from Lewis and Clark artifacts to Lindbergh objects. It is not clear from the article when the exhibit begins and how long it lasts and if you intend to go I would call in advance to make sure the exhibit has started. (314) 454-3101 I grew up in St. Louis and lived there most of my life. We moved to the Deep South several years ago; however I am not sure why it is said you can never return home. When I go back St. Louis it does seem to me that I never left and I feel completely at home. Missouri and St. Louis have a great past from the Osage Indians, the sophisticated French traders, the remote Spanish and then the “rowdy” Americans streaming in after the Louisiana Purchase. Remains of Daniel Boone’s judgment tree still exist not far from St. Louis and there is still talk of the duels fought on Bloody Island in the Mississippi river. If you are able to visit St. Louis plan to spend some additional time to see a great city. IP: Logged |
