Yesterday I was in CORK in the Republic of Ireland.

Sadly the exhibition finishes on Saturday, June 4th (so I just made it!) but I visited:
'CORK SILVER & GOLD - Four centuries of Craftsmanship''
A triumph of an exhibition with more than 260 pieces to feast ones eyes upon!!
There is an accompanying catalogue which I am sure will become a MUST HAVE for all those intersteed in Irish silver

It even has an entry for Philp Syng before he left for America!

Written by John R. Bowen & Conor O'Brien it is available from the Crawford Art Gallery in Cork.
Published by The Collins Press, West Link Park, Doughcloyne, Wilton, Cork, Republic of Ireland, ISBN 1-903464-95-1.

Available at about $40 for a paperback and $100 for hardback.

The whole thing an incredible effort - an it really shows!!

The book “Cork Silver and Gold—Four Centuries of Craftsmanship” arrived yesterday from a very nice book dealer in London. It is a handsome book and I wish I had seen the exhibit in person. Thanks for recommending this fine book. Philadelphia’s gain was certainly a loss for Cork when Philip Syng moved to the colonies. I have just briefly looked at the text, but did notice that Croker Barrington used Spanish coins for some of his silver and on these included the work “Dollar” as part of his mark.
They did have a picture of Stephen Walsh’s mark, but it does not appear to be the same an on my tongs.
Thanks again for the great recommendation.
