(necklace purchased by The Newark Museum in 1929 for $110, which was saying something back then) The Bard Graduate Center recently opened a great landmark exhibition on Georg Jensen's jewelry. Like Jensen or not, it's worth a hour to see the first great silversmith who made people pay art prices for essentially costume jewelry. And the stuff is great, from 1900 to the present. IP: Logged |

Thank you for sharing this wonderful necklace! Could you identify the stones? Cheryl ;o) IP: Logged |

Star sapphires. Ha ha ha! Actually, the classic Jensen stone, labradorites, and lovely ones. The $110 in 1929 would be about $1200 today, which would be a lot more than you'd pay for most silver jewelry with semi-precious stones. Jensen (or more properly, Frederick Lunning, his agent here) got people to pay prices like that for the Jensen name. IP: Logged |
