If anybody is going to be in London before October 23rd, there is a Not To Be Missed exhibition (I missed it in New York at the beginning of the year!): Princely Splendour - The Dresden Court 1580-1620. A breathtaking group of pieces which really give an insight into how our Renaissance ancestors thought about objects and art; whole groups of wonderful silver and silver-gilt objects any one of which would be a highlight in even the most celebrated of museums! There was a write-up in Apollo, January 2005 by Philippa Glanville. A very erudite catalogue by Beitiagen von Dirk Syndrom published by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in conjunction with Electra of Milan - ISBN 8837027206 - accompanies the show. IP: Logged |
