Sotheby�s Institute of Art-London�s schedule of 2006 summer public programmes includes silver studies. This four-day course focuses on the styles, techniques and functions of English silver from 1500 to the present.
Comprising of morning lectures on the history of silver, followed by afternoon visits there will be a tour of Goldsmiths Hall, the centre for London hallmarking, where you will experience a handling session of their famous collection. In addition we will visit a silversmith�s workshop to study techniques first-hand and to appreciate the production of contemporary silver objects. Finally, the current silver market will be considered through visits to a dealer or auction house. By the end of the course, participants will have an introduction to the many ways of understanding and enjoying English silver.
