I was just wondering who of our members will be attending the Baltimore Antiques Show this weekend, Thursday through Sunday. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to go this year, but I will be there most of the day Friday and Saturday, if anyone would like to touch base. It is the first year with this four day format, and the first with new management, so everyone I talk to is a little nervous about how it will play out. Historically it has been the best silver show in the country, and we will have to see if it continues that way. Anyway, just send me an e-mail if anyone wants to meet up. Thanks! Brent IP: Logged |

We just got back from the show. The new show management is clearly trying to upgrade to a more “Palm Beach” crowd. They actually had white carpeting down and made everyone with a scooter put tape over their wheels to keep the carpet clean. Here on the east coast we have been having very stormy weather; you can imagine what rain soaked feet tracked on the nice white carpet. We also heard that they tried to ban the dealers from even using the electric carts but that didn’t go over too well. The merchandise was spectacular. So were the prices. Some of the tried and true dealers were missing and were replaced by higher end ones. We spent less than $100 on Thursday. The sticker shock was pretty severe. But the dealers did bring out their very best and it was a wonder to see such marvelous wares. On Friday, we did better and really picked up steam by end of day. We came away with a few very nice things that we look forward to sharing with you all. It was nice that the show started on Thursday. It meant that we could spend two days at the show and still have time left over for the holiday weekend. As usual, we struggled to finish in our allotted two days and didn’t get to spend any time in the book part of the show. Every year we hope we have enough time for the books and every year we run out of time. Rumor has it that the show management is looking to increase booth prices by 40% next year. Can’t imagine what that is going to do to the already inflated prices. Guess we’ll have to wait and see. It is still one of the best shows around for silver and we hope it stays that way.
