The London Silver Vaults is hosting a unique exhibit showcasing both modern and antique reproductionsby master silversmiths. This exhibit is tied into the "Renaissance Silver from the Shroder Collection" that will be on display at the The Wallace Collection in July (Manchester Square, London). The Schroder Collection was formed from about 1870 to 1930 by two generations of an Anglo-German banking family and includes historic works from England, Germany, Italy and France. The exhibition consists of 75 works and there is an accompanying catalog. This is the first time this private collection has been on public display in many years. Exhibition is being curated by Timothy Schroder. There will also be a Renaissance Silver Study Day on 10 October 2007 featuring Timothy Schroder, Dora Thornton and Philippa Glanville. Yes, 'great minds do think alike' - I was just coming to add this note: the catalog is being distributed in the US and Canada by the University of Washington Press, published by Paul Holberton. According to the UWP catalog, it is scheduled for August 2007 (which means it could be out this month, even). Despite the title, the blurb indicates it includes Medieval as well as Renaissance works. Timothy Schroder, with Deborah Lambert: Renaissance Silver in the Schroder Collection. 176pp, 75 color illus, 9x11 in. ISBN 978-0-900785-96-2. IP: Logged |
