Fowler Museum at UCLA Silver Seduction: The Art of Mexico Modernist Antonio Pineda Through March 15, 2009 UCLA Sunset Blvd. at Westwood Los Angeles, CA 310/825-4361 www.fowler.ucla.edu Debuting at the Fowler Museum, this exhibit highlights more than 50 years of silver jewelry from Antonio Pineda. Pineda, an artisan who is one of the last living members of the famous “Taxco School”, will display nearly 200 examples of his lifetime of work. The designers of the Taxco School incorporated a multitude of design influences in their work, from Pre-Columbian art to Mexican Colonial design period. Pineda’s jewelry is known for its human element design style, where when it fits the body right, it becomes its own work of art. The large chunky necklaces that looks uncomfortable to wear when actually accent the human form through specifically placed hinges and facets, allowing the piece to mold to the body in an almost seductive fashion. The Book Silver Seduction: The Art of Mexican Modernist Antonio Pineda (ISBN 978-2-9778344-0-2) will be published in the fall of 2008 in conjunction with this exhibit. IP: Logged |

This looks like a really "yummy" exhibit. Don't know if we'll make it to LA, but we're sure going to try to get the book. Thanks, Carla. IP: Logged |

There's a nice profile/appreciation/interview of Pineda in the L.A. Times in connection with the opening. I went searching online because there was a mini-ad for the exhibit last night on Ovation TV, an arts channel. IP: Logged |
