Although not focused on silver, if you have any interest at all in jewelry design of the 1960's & 1970's, the exhibition Simply Brilliant: Artist-Jewelers of the 1960's and 1970's at the Cincinnati Art Museum is a must see. Drawn from the venerable collection of Cincinnatian Kimberly Klosterman, the exhibition presents about 120 pieces representative of the artists' desire to use traditional materials in innovative ways. There is an underlying theme of naturalism and explosiveness in line with the social movements of the time. The exhibition runs through February 6, 2022. Even if you can't make it to the exhibition, be sure to watch the video included in the exhibition link above, of noted jewelry scholar and author, Amanda Triossi, discussing the jewelry created during this period. The video runs about 30 minutes. There is also a catalog accompanying the exhibition. IP: Logged |
