We have found that a great source of information is old catalogs, advertisement and pricing sheets. For example: what size/type of knife was made in a particular pattern and when? By comparing old catalogues, old advertising and price sheets you can reasonably determine when a particular form was made or discontinued. We have a large collection of catalogues, Many which we reproduce and sell. As our We have posted a blurb on the "For Sale" Forum listing many of the catalogues that IP: Logged |

I'd like to see a turn-of-the century catalog for Wallace and/or Watson reprinted. IP: Logged |

Our greatest need is to find out what existed in the pre 1890 era, to document the emergence of knives, salad forks & butter spreaders. The 1888 Gorham Catalog and Whiting Catalogues were very helpful. The older catalog you could find, the better. IP: Logged |

The earliest known flatware catalogue by Gorham is from 1881, which lists more pieces than it illustrates. This early era is obviously a source of many questions and frustrations what with companies merging and buying each other's dies, few records exist for so many companies. Many of Gorham's flatware patterns from the late 1880's had full catalogues available, but few have survived intact. IP: Logged |

What is the oldest Tiffany catalogue you can find. Would love to have one of these from the 1880's. See my questions under Tiffany Knives etc. IP: Logged |

Did Gorham produce a separate catalogue for each of its flatware patterns? Are any catalogues known to exist for its (1917) Lansdowne pattern? IP: Logged |

To: americanpotluck Re: Lansdowne pattern When Gorham introduced the Lansdowne pattern in 1917, they also published a catalog. The catalogue included an index of flatware and holloware items made in the pattern. This index is currently available to Book of Silver registered users in the Book of Silver Forum. Bob, I don't know for certain how far back the Tiffany catalogues go, but certainly as early as the 1890's. They didn't actually print illustrated catalogues, but actually what they called the Tiffany Blue Book. This was a listing of many items they retailed including listings of what they made in their silver patterns. Most were about 3" x 4 1/1" approximately. and around 200 plus or minus pages. I will provide more detailed information soon. They did on occassion send out photos of selected items to customers. IP: Logged |
