Just in time for spring (here on the west coast, anyway) is a big (4 1/2 x 7 1/2 inch) tradecard for Caldwell & Company of Philadelphia, issued a year before the company's founder, James E. Caldwell died. While a grain of salt is always in order when dealing with advertisements (some things never change), it is worth noting that the word Silversmiths is used, though Rainwater indicates the company only acted as a retailer after 1860. The card was printed by Marcus Ward & Company of London, one of the preeminent English chromolithographers of the 19th century.
