Another touch of luck has come my way from the dead letter file -- a single sheet, stampless letter from James W. Dixon to James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield. It is postmarked Baltimore 15 October 1835 and contains an order for Thomas Palmer & Company, a testimonial from the same, and a personal note from Dixon to his parents. As with the Fletcher letter, I have uploaded some high resolution scans for anyone interested:
Inside Outside The layout of the order is a bit too complicated to transcribe here, so I will work on a tabled web page tonight. It details more than 50 sets of tea and coffee services in both Britannia and silverplate using style and design numbers. Palmer & Company were evidently very satisfied with goods previously received: James Dixon & Sons -- Gentn (Copy) Baltimore 14 Octr 1835 Below is added On back is added: Time for some research! Here is a transcription of the order as best I can make out -- James did not have the clearest handwriting. IP: Logged |
