While researching the Bailey family silversmiths (Roswell Hopkins, Charles, Samuel Philpot, Bradbury Melon, and Samuel Chase) of Vermont, I had the good fortune to make the digital acquaintance of Ms Barbara Wyatt, a direct descendant and fellow genealogy addict. She lives in the house built by her G-G-Grandfather, James Monroe Bailey and has boxes of family documents. As she has worked to catalog them, she has been kind enough to share with me those that pertain to the various silversmiths. Here, c 1870, is a carte de viste portrait of Roswell Hopkins Bailey, who was master to all the others.
It is a rare thing to be able to put a face to a name from our silver history. I hope to add others as they become available. IP: Logged |
