I have a Pedro Castillo piece and would like to know more about him but have found very little. Does anyone know where I can find out more about his work?
Thank you

Hmm, I can't seem to find a copy of that book unless I order it for about $50. Does anybody else know where I might look that won't cost me 50 bucks? Thanks all.

Welcome to the world of collecting. Pretty soon you will begin to wonder if you are collecting silver or books. Comes with the territory.

I have been called a cheapskate about many things, but never reference books. In time, they more than pay for themselves. Buy that book.

Hi!

I understand reference books are invaluable & in most cases worth the money, I'd like to offer my 2 cents worth. I have well over 1,000 books (of the reference type, silver, glass, etc) not including your run of the mill novels etc. If I just have a "one of item" , and don't plan to make it a collection, any info I need on the maker etc. I trust the library to get the book for me, the internet , or perhaps the generosity of those on forums to help me out, as it would not cost effective to buy the book. I do understand however that not all libraries can do that, or you may not live close to one. This is something that many of us forget , we don't all live in Major Metropolises (sp)...you know what I mean.

That said, I did request the book "Silver Masters of Mexico" by Morrill and my library was able to get it for me & before I return it will try & give you a snipit of info I found about Pedro Castillo Gallegos.

He was 12 when he helped out at the Taller de Las Delicias one of a group of silver workshops in Taxco. He left in1939 with family members & Hector Aguilar for better opportunities. At the newly formed "Taller Borda" he was a "maestro" in the hand wrought silver workshop and later became the foreman in that section. It was his job to distribute the pieces to be produced that day. Though he made some jewelry at the Taller Borda he primarily concentrated on the production of flatware.

Now I hope this info helps you &/or may encourage you want to buy the book . It goes without saying that this beautiful book includes pictures of his works & marks, as well as other prominent Mexican silversmiths. Most important now since they are becoming more & more appreciated in the world of silver in today's market. Enjoy your piece!

Thanks Jersey! That does help me decide if I will buy the book. I wasn't even sure he was in it and didn't want to spend the money and then find out he wasn't in it. And you're right, it is the only piece I have and I'm not a collector. Man, your good!

Hi Again! Glad I could help you, and that said I must add that the persons responding to you were the moderators, and forum masters, and I am sure they would never have recommeded a book that did not have the info you were looking for. Listen to them all they know of what they are talking about. Have a good one!
