Tiffany exhibited at the Paris Exhibition of 1878. English Birmingham makers Elkington & Co. did so also. This is a note from the archives of Elkington & Co. in which their manager at the Exhibition is having thoughts about the rival silversmiths' products!!

Great bit of inside information. Seems the Mixed metal pieces were a big hit. I am not familiar with Nicoud. Fred IP: Logged |

Here's a piece the writer of that letter would have been looking at.
20 inches diameter, inlaid with copper, gold, niello. Probably designed by Eugene Soligny for Tiffany & Co., and originally made for the Centennial Exposition in 1876 in Philadelphia. IP: Logged |

And too small, but here's a case of coffee spoons by Tiffany, all different but very Japanese. Enameled, niello & copper inlaid, etc. With an odd "Olympian" spoon for fun.
