The June issue of Country Living contains a short but interesting article on silver ring boxes, which were included with the purchase of high-end engagement rings from about 1880 through the middle of the 20th c.
The article has some very good color photos.

Very nice collection. No, I did not even know the objects existed. My wife and I get country living, and I thought the forum might be interested in the article. I very much enjoyed it.

I was wondering whether that might be the case, ringboxlady! I have seen a few examples when out scouring for silver, but yours are much nicer than any I have seen. How fun to have your collection featured in an article! How did that come about?

I am a subscriber to Country Living, so if anyone needs a copy of the article but can't find the magazine, I'd be happy to photocopy and send it along.

thanks you guys! i have enjoyed collecting them but they are hard for me to find being in the middle of a small rural town in Arkansas!!! i manage to get to memphis and birmingham to do some shopping. please send me contacts if you ever find any while looking for your subjects of interest? by the way, what are your silver interests? the article came about a year ago, i got a call from sharon graber at CL and she wanted to make a mention of them in the magazines section titled " hot items" or something like that and then she emailed me in jan. and said they wanted to run a full 3 page article on them and could i send them to be photographed. i agreed and the rest is in the pages of CL. I wrote an article for Silver Magazine last year in the sept/oct issue, and several other magazines have done articles too. I really want to get them noticed because so few people, dealers and collectors included, know nothing of them. i love this site because it gave people a look at my collection in the early days!!!! It was good to hear from you!

I am just a dabbler who collects interesting spoons. I enjoy deciphering marks for the same reason I enjoy the Sunday Times Crossword puzzle. As an historian who travels a lot, I get to some exotic places and find some interesting pieces. The fourm is great fun and a break from the writing I do (which I need to get back to now). My wife and I have subscribed to Country Living for years. I will keep an eye out for ring boxes as I travel and let you know if I see any.

Cheers,
Tom

Now I am going to have to remember where I saw a box recently, because it made me think of your collection. I know it was here in Maine, so if I find it I will let you know where.

My silver interests are varied, but I collect Irish and English Georgian silver, coin silver and lately have been developing an interest in 20th century American pieces. I have "mini collections" within these interests-fish slices, sugar baskets and stuffing spoons.
