My copy shows Nicholas N. Weaver at 26 Genesee Street and William B. Clark at 22 Genesee Street. There is also Nathaniel Butler, who is listed as a merchant, but who had been a silversmith, possibly the city's first, and a partner of Charles Joseph Jay DeBerard c 1808-1814. IP: Logged |

As is just about always the case, you are correct. I have given residences for those two gentleman. The professions and addresses are not listed together throughout the directory, and I used the first address that I came to that had a matching name. This directory has a little different format than some, but it is very well done in my opinion. Thank you. [This message has been edited by bascall (edited 06-23-2009).] IP: Logged |

And thank you -- I took a closer look at the names and was able to tie in Charles DeBerard through the line of his mother, Polly Johnson. IP: Logged |

Great! It is a new surname for me. For a while I questioned whether I was reading it correctly. IP: Logged |

How about a wander over to Troy? I have been poking around (once again) looking for Henry Bayeux. Belden & Darling list him as Henry F. d. 1839, but that must be the son of BAYEUX & SON, rather than the father -- his tombstone in the Old Troy Grounds shows he died March 21 1839, age 39 yrs and H. BAYEUX was advertising in the city in 1801. There is (or was, as the place has been developed into condos now) another Henry in the graveyard, died Nov 29 1845, age 80, which makes a good deal more sense. Unfortunately, the trail is very bare. He may be descended from the disappointing sons of Thomas Bayeaux [sic] who married Sara Cuyler around 1730, but that is just a wild guess. IP: Logged |

Probably nothing useful here, but it's the best I could do in this case. There is a Henry Bayeux who was born between 1756 and 1774 in the U S Federal Census for Troy, New York for 1800 and 1810 with two sons who were born between 1790 and 1800. In the 1830 U S Federal Census for Troy, New York Henry F Bayeux is listed with a 70 to 80 year old male in his household. Charity Fowler born about 1732 daughter of Moses Fowler and Sarah Archer married Henry Bayeux in the Province of New York on 16 October 1753. IP: Logged |
