Following my query into Russian Imperial Warrant holders and all the help I received, again many thanks, I have decided that I must aquire the Postnikova-Loseva reference book on Russian Silver Marks. Fine - go to the web and find a seller - simple, or is it? Which Postnikova-Loseva - the 1974 edition or the 2003 edition? Is the 2003 edition a later edition (with added information) of the 1974 or are they two different book? The 2003 book is titled 'Gold and Silver manufacture in Russia XV-XX century' (I assume title translated)by Postnikova-loseva and others. This seems to be the book I need but cannot find on the web. The 1974 book I can find (I think) being priced at +/- $95.00. Please help .... which book do I need for the most comprehensive information on imperial Russian marks - makers, assayists, town etc. and where can I find it? IP: Logged |

Try to get the 1995 or 2003 edition. The price should be between 80 and 100 USD. There is a 2006 edition on the Russian market for 300 USD, but it is just a reprint of the former issues (I looked through it - nothing new!). Sazikov 2000 IP: Logged |

Many thanks Sazikov - I never realised there were so many varieties. At least I now know I am dealing with different editrions of the same book. I will now go searching for the 95 or 03. Graham IP: Logged |

I found the 2003 edition in a Russian-language bookstore in Paris last year for 50 euros. Good luck hunting! IP: Logged |
