[26-1328] Seeking recommendations for various accurate research books to identify ENGLISH silverplate - the marks/makers and ID's. Rainwater has a fine book for AMERICAN silverplate, but is there a "twin" for English? Please, and thank you. (I realize that this should be posted in the Silverplate forum - I just don't have permission to do so. ) IP: Logged |

I don't know of one. And this type of book would be a very good idea. All sorts of English silverplate, and Continental for that matter, appears in the US market yet there is no really good source for identifying makers. IP: Logged |

A well illustrated pocket size publication is - Andrea De Giovanni, 1991. "Sheffield & Birmingham Victorian Electroplaters Book of Marks." English Text. Editrice Militare Italiana Ivo Fossati. Milano There is no IBN reference. IP: Logged |

While I also like Andrea De Giovanni, there is another very useful, pocket size book by George Mappin:"Dealer Guides, EPNS, Electroplated Nickel Silver, Old Sheffield Plate and Close Playte Makers' Marks from 1784" foulsham, London, New York, Toronto, Sydney, ISBN 0-572-02419-3. Foulsham The Publishing House, Bennetts Close, Cippenham, Berkshire SL1 5AP, England. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Thank you, Ozfred & DB. Two more books to add to my "must have" list. For the life of me, I don't seem to be able to find #1 ANYWHERE! IP: Logged |
