Gorham always seemed to have a huge advertising budget, with many of their ads featuring beautiful graphics - these full page ads feature some of their craftsmen. 1925 - James Albert Major, at 59 years with Gorham in this ad. Sam Hough's Roster of Craftsmen shows him as a chaser, born 1851, hired 1866, pensioned 1927, died 1928.

1926 - Fred E. Coppage, at 29 years with Gorham. Sam Hough's Roster of Craftsmen shows him as a chaser, born 1850, hired 1883, left 1892, returned 1902, left 1912, returned 1916 (apparently a restless type), died 1929.
1926 - Edward Zior, at 27 years with Gorham. Sam Hough's Roster of Craftsmen shows him as a chaser, born 1868, hired 1899, sadly, committing suicide in 1927.
1926 - Alexander D. Philip, at 36 years with Gorham, Durgin Division.
1926 - Albert Schou, at 20 years with Gorham, Durgin Division.
1926 - Christmas ad with unnamed craftsman.

1927 - James Albert Major again, at 61 years with Gorham in this ad, retiring that year.
1927 - Thomas H. Yates, at 26 years with Gorham. Sam Hough's Roster of Craftsmen shows him as a silversmith, born 1885, hired 1900, left from 1942-45 (WWII), died 1947.
1927 - James MacKenzie, at 35 years with Gorham.
1927 - Christmas ad for The Gorham Craftsmen's Gift Book.

Cheryl, I have occasionally seen such an advertisement by Gorham and have wondered if there were many other similar ads in a series? Thanks so much for sharing these 12 with us. It is terrific to see them together. Do you believe there were only 12? Do you have more or might we go searching for similar ads in the series to add to this wonderful compilation of yours? Thanks again, IP: Logged |

Hi Scott ~ Wouldn't surprise me if there are more, have been running across them bit by bit for a few years, but just recently found the three 1927 'Honors/Mastery/Achievement' ads in a single magazine. Find it appealing to put some faces to the craftsmen...... ~Cheryl IP: Logged |
