Hi Scott – The first 4 seem to be front and back images of French trading cards that were inserted in containers of Liebig powdered beef bouillon. Such cards were usually produced in series to be collected and/or traded – in this case the series is art metalwork. When I was a kid I collected cards from Nestle chocolate bars that could be pasted into “free” albums provided by the candy makers. Duplicates could be traded with friends. No sooner than I would have pestered my dear mother to buy me yet another chocolate to complete the series, when another would have begun! The cards were considered vaguely educational for kids. The last image is a reproduction of a famous 16th C engraving of the workshop of the Parisian silversmith Étienne Delaulne. It is reproduced often because of very accurate details. IP: Logged |

Kayvee, Thanks so much. I was hoping someone would provide a better explanation....All I had to work with was a little high school French and that was one class many decades ago. Thanks again. IP: Logged |
