No, not from a pirate site--from the Metropolitan Museum of Art: The Met is making hundreds of books and illustrated bulletins and journals available for free download. Lots of silver--for example:

There are lots more--those were just a couple of examples. Here's the whole collection: Book titles with full-text online (456) If you search on the keyword "silver," you get this: Silver Search results (192) IP: Logged |

(The keyword "silver" search turns up material that's still in print as well as material that's out of print. I think only the out-of-print stuff is available for free download. But there's still tons and tons of great stuff there.) IP: Logged |

speaking of the met, the "search the collection" page is a great resource and a lot of fun. many of their untold 1000s of pieces, though not on display, have been photographed and in many cases also show and/or describe the exact marks of pieces. what i like is that their holdings include not only "museum quality" objects, but also more pedestrian pieces. if you search for gorham, for instance, you can see not only a magnificent chased silver and carved ivory tankard, but also a humble medallion pattern cheese scoop.
