I have 4 forks in mint condition that are stamped Gorham Pat. 87 and also has the anchor symbol. I would like to know the name of the pattern and the value of these forks. Thank you very much for your time and assistance. IP: Logged |

It is very difficult to identify a pattern without a photograph or a very detailed description. Please post a photo. "Pat. 87" doesn't designate the pattern name but rather the year the pattern was patented. Once you know the pattern name; it should be a pretty easy thing to look up some comparative pricing on eBay. You could also call a pattern matching company to see how much they asking (full retail). Please know that if you are going to try and sell your forks to a dealer then you must reduce the retail price significantly (usually by 50-80%). If you are going to insure the forks for replacement value then use the retail price. Be sure to check with your insurance company about whether they require an independent professional written appraisal when making a claim. If you have questions about the difference between walking into a dealers store for an appraisal and a professional appraisal then check out the Professional Silver Appraising Forum. IP: Logged |

Your forks are silverplate. The pattern name is Royal. The patent was awarded on April 17, 1888. IP: Logged |
