Can someone educate me? I am so totally confused! I have a set of 4 Gorham Versailles pattern teaspoons with the Cupid and lyre (or harp) motif that was supposedly made in 1888. My spoons have the old Lion Anchor G mark; Sterling'Copyrighted '88. But below that they have a clearly inpressed letter 'K' in a square. I thought that a dat letter of 'k' represented the year of 1878-- of course the spoons can't be 'made' in '78 ' if they have a copyright of '88. Can anyone shed any light on what the date mark might mean? Also, I have seen a lot of Gorham pieces, but these spoons are my first with an imprinted 'copyright'. Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks, Deb IP: Logged |

Could the K be something else, perhaps an E or an H? Gorham would sometimes mark their flatware with a weight designation (e.g. H for 'heavy,' or E for 'extra'). I don't know what the K would mean, if it is a K. Gorham usually wouldn't mark flatware, especially teaspoons, with a date mark. Some fancy or custom pieces of flatware were dated. Also, I think letter date marks are not found inside of squares. I don't know the significance if it is a K, though. Some other Gorham flatware is marked 'copyright' or 'copyrighted,' such as the multi-motif Fontainebleau and Mythologique patterns. IP: Logged |
