Durgan's Arts & Crafts has a hammered finish and the handle is, or has the appearance of being, Attached to the back of the bowl of the spoon or fork, and the lip of the bowl above the handle is curled forward. We have also seen this Attached handle with curled lip, in the identical shape, on similar pieces where the finish is totally smooth; the shape and appearance of the handle suggest that the pattern is Dolly Madison.
In her Revised Second Edition, 1994, Hagen notes Dolly Madison has a "smooth back", apparently to distinguish it from Gorham' Dolly Madison, which has a reverse tip't design.
Are there any illustrations of the Attached handle that confirm these Arts & Crafts and Dolly Madison designs? IP: Logged |

Here is another Durgin puzzler. It appears to be an iced-tea spoon, or possibly some sort of long handled server. The bowl end is clearly related to the "Arts & Crafts" pattern of Durgin's, but the handle is very sharply pointed. Has anyone seen other pieces like this? Brent IP: Logged |
