Here is a picture of what appears to be a rare modern Gorham pattern. The name is GOLDEN SCROLL, and it was apparently introduced in 1977. It is quite handsome for the time period, and the salad set I acquired is of good weight. What I find remarkable, however, is that the scroll work at the base of the handle is honest-to-goodness bright-cut engraving, executed by hand! I would never have expected to see hand engraving on a pattern from the 1970's. I suppose this may have been a "premium" pattern, with the hand engraving used as a selling point. Regardless, there does not seem to be much of this pattern available in the marketplace, and I don't expect that it was offered for very long. Does anyone have more information about this pattern, or maybe a sales flyer from the 1970's that mentions it? I would like to know more about this. Thanks! Brent IP: Logged |
