I have had the luck to come across a set of hand hammered, applied design dessert bowls with matching underplates. They are date marked with a key signifying that they were made in 1890 but in the underside center of each piece is a mark the size of a pin head with a bird/swan/duck. I have attached a photo of this mark but I have been unable to figure out its importance since I have either never seen this mark before or did not notice it. As I said, it is very very small and impossible to see without a loop. Any information would be appreciated!

I have tried to figure out how to post an image but I am at a loss. I do have an image of the set and can email it to anyone directly if you are interested.

Hi Carlaz, If the date mark is a key, then the year is 1906. Without seeing a photo, the swan mark you describe is probably a French import mark.

Thank You so much...I was able to confirm that the bird is indeed an assay mark from France.
