I inhereted quite a few pieces of Gorham Jac Rose pattern silver, but unfortunately they were only forks and spoons. I would eventually like to try to complete the set (ie at least to add knives). I have searched some of the sale sites and found only spoons offered. I was wondering if anyone knew exactly what types of pieces were produced with this pattern so I would know what a "set" would consist of.

This question sounded familiar. Check the response to my message dated 1/21/2000 on the General Silver Forum.

I searched on "knives" for user "WGS" to find it.

Hi,

I'm new here and this is my first post so please forgive me if I'm not looking in the right places.

Anyway, this question is of interest to me as well so I followed your advice and searched knives and WGS however, Bob Schulhof suggests checking out the "Evolution of the Place setting".

I tried searching Evolution place setting but the only result was the "bright cut" post.

Do you have any idea where to go next?

Thanks for any info

Emily

If you will go to www.Replacements.com under Gorham, Jac Rose no monograms, and scroll all the way down the page, you will find an extensive list of pieces for this pattern, although they are not in stock. It should give you a pretty good sense of what you need to complete your set.

A valuable clue as to the style of knife that was produced for the Jac Rose pattern is contained in Gorham's 1888 Catalogue (reprinted by Eden). If you look at the children's sets in the back of that catalogue, you will see that Jac Rose is shown with a pearl handled knife.
