Paul, A smart guy like you is very hard to stump - so I am sure you know. I appreciate you giving everyone else a chance. I like to hear the suspicions and guesses – - for me it is those answers that are the most fun. IP: Logged |

Scott, You have not shown a side view that might give us a clue to it's use. My first guess is a coin holder or stamp holder. Fred IP: Logged |

I suspect that it's a magnifying glass, with the lens swivelled inside the casing. IP: Logged |

My guess is a cuff link, part of Shieblers medallion series. Jersey IP: Logged |

The four pins look to be expanded like rivets. It might help to know if the back plate is removable. IP: Logged |

The back is not removable and is without an medallion. So far, some great and reasonable answers but no one has identified it. Shall we let it continue? Paul are you ready to suggest your answer? IP: Logged |

If the rear plate is nonremovable, something must have been clamped between that could have come out without damaging the silver -- probably fabric or leather. Perhaps a decorative medallion on a ladies purse? IP: Logged |

Looks to me like it's a sewing item, such as a pin disk. IP: Logged |

Perhaps a tape measure? IP: Logged |

My first guess was that it is a cigar cutting implement that has (or had) blades that swing out from the sides. IP: Logged |

Thanks to all for the great guesses. Congratulations to Richard Kurtzman for the knowing the answer.
