We found this pair of Shiebler serving pieces of significant weight in a pattern that we have not seen before. The pattern is hand chased rather than die struck as the patterns show slight variations between the two pieces. We’re wondering if the overall pieces are hand formed as well. Does anyone have any other examples of this pattern to share with us?

These beautifully chased servers could be hand forged and then filed up. I can not tell from the image, but comparing of the distance between the shoulders by careful measurement might give a hint. If it is exactly the same a die was used to stamp the basic form. The great thing about pre- 20th century silver is that time, in the making of the object, was afordable. If these were produced today by hand the cost would be huge! IP: Logged |
