We have a postage scale without the round disk at the top (for laying the letter on to weigh). Does anyone know where we can get a replacement? Also I have a ink well with a couple of broken pieces of glass. Can this be replaced.Does it hurt the value. Thanks IP: Logged |

In general, missing or damaged parts/components will significantly affect the value of silver items. I have heard that there is at least one company that will make, to order, glass liners for mustard dishes, ink wells, etc., but, unfortunately, I don't have a specific name. Perhaps someone else can supply this. Have no idea who could make a replacement for the weight platform on your postal scale. It would be helpful to have more information on your items: are they sterling silver or silver-plated? What are their marks? Could you transmit an image? With sufficient information, the archives of Tiffany & Co. might be able to turn up the original design drawings. IP: Logged |

The following is a link to Stephen Harper Silver and Silverplate who repair antiques, stock replacement glass liners and apparently deal with manufacturers of custom liner replacement orders. (I have not used their services myself.) Stephen Harper Silver and Silverplate Also I remember finding a specialty co or two when doing different searches on WMF who made so many silver and plate pieces with glass liners. IP: Logged |
